Ben Proud, lived up to his name by finishing fourth in the Olympics 50m freestyle final in Rio. Representing Great Britain, the sprinter qualified for the final by setting a new British record of 21.54s.

Although born in London, Ben grew up in Kuala Lumpur and attended Alice Smith from Kindergarten until Year 12, when he left to pursue his passion of swimming at the age of 16. At Alice Smith, he swam with the school swimming team, KLASS Torpedoes, representing many international meets in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.

Although Ben now lives in Plymouth UK, Malaysia is still very much close at heart and he often visits his friends and family here.

Ben attributes much of his success in large part to his teachers at Alice Smith, “They always encourage me to go above and beyond, and not settle for average…They gave me the self-confidence to push myself to the next level.”

Ben’s other achievements include two British national records, World Championship finalist and Commonwealth Games Double Gold medal winner.
