BMCC Hosts 2nd Webinar on Medical Devices Industry

Last week, the BMCC Trade Team hosted a Live Webinar with the primary intention of facilitating UK businesses towards a greater understanding of Malaysia’s Medical Devices Industry. This represents the second Webinar the Trade Team has hosted in collaboration with the UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC), the first few of more to come. This Webinar, led by BMCC Trade Manager and Healthcare Sector Specialist Hezrie Musa, gathered 17 business representatives primarily from the UK, US, Singapore and Malaysia.

The first guest speaker for the Webinar, Alan Chin – Senior Manager, Business Development Healthcare Distribution of DKSH Malaysia Sdn Bhd focused on experience in dealing & representing foreign brands in the country, market demand & opportunities, and tips & advice for medical device industry players. Secondly was Ir. Sasikala Devi Thangavelu – Director for Policy,Code & Standard Division from the Medical Device Authority Malaysia who then presented on Malaysia’s policy & regulation, the registration processes & pathway to approval as well as the market size, export & import, current demand & opportunities of the Malaysian Medical Device Industry.

The nation’s exports in medical devices have reached an approximate RM 17.7 billion in the last year, topping the rest of the ASEAN countries when it comes to the medical device market, valued at USD 1.4 billion. Malaysia is a nation with heavy focus on manufacturing yet still imports high quality medical devices from overseas. The opportunities for UK medical device players to export their goods to this competitive market is great, and this webinar served to provide an introductory passage to understanding the Malaysian climate.
