The second edition of BMCC's Breakfast Talk Series was successfully held last week with Dato’ Faris Yahaya, Managing Director of Cyberview Sdn Bhd and Mr Hew Wee Choong, Vice President, Investment & Industry Development of MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation) providing insightful presentations on the topics of “Malaysia’s Future: The Digital Economy” and “IoT’s (Internet of Things) Contribution to the Development of Smart Cities” respectively. Over 30 attendees consisting of BMCC members and a proportionate number of non-members turned up for the event held at the ASEAN Data Analytics eXchange (ADAX).
Dato' Faris spoke on Cyberview's current initiatives in Smart City Solutions through collaborations in smart infrastructure (traffic analysis, parking management, wireless tech), environment (district cooling, electric transportation, compostech machines), economy (cashless payments, e-Job portals, hyperlocal advertising) and society (marketing hub influencers, citizen empowerment). Branching into the Internet of Things (IoT) in association to Smart Cities, Dato' Faris touched on Cyberjaya's appointment as a 'living lab' for IoT Technologies as part of the National IoT Strategic Roadmap to creating a conducive IoT industry ecosystem and strengthening technopreneur capabilities in Apps & Services towards making Malaysia a regional Development hub for IoT.
Meanwhile Mr Hew spoke on matters pertaining to the driving of foreign investments, the building of local tech champions, catalysing digital innovation ecosystems and the propagating of digital inclusivity. In supporting these drives towards encouraging the thriving digital businesses in Malaysia, he said MDEC is making strides in the technologies of cloud computing, IoT, information security, BDA, Fintech amd E-Commerce. The reliance on foreign investment is also a key growth factor, with the UK being the second largest investor in Malaysia's Digital Economy (£55 billion total investments from 1997-2016).
The breakfast talk concluded with the attendees staying on for morning refreshments and some networking.
