The BMCC was delighted to be apart of several events in the past week, namely a Tax & Regulatory Policies seminar by IDEAS and CBI, a breakfast talk event in conjunction with the Oil & Gas Asia 2017 as well as a 4 day booth presence at the Malaysian International Retail & Franchise Exhibition (MIRF). More details below. 


Tax and Regulatory Policies: Impacting How Malaysians Do Business

 
The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) in partnership with the Coalition for Business Integrity (CBI) organised a half-day seminar titled "Tax and Regulatory Policies - Impacting how Malaysians Do Business" in Kuala Lumpur on last week on the 13th July. The main objective of this seminar is to look at how existing tax and regulatory policies affect Malaysian and multinational businesses operating in this country.
 
Aurelia Silva, BMCC Executive Director, was invited to join a board of panelists to share her thoughts and opinions on whether Malaysia's tax and regulatory policies provided sufficient points of attraction to multinational corporations (MNCs). Making up the rest of the panelists were Amarjeet Singh (Tax Expert from Ernst & Young), Sim Choo Keng (Founder & Chief Executive of Sim Leisure Consultants),  Carmelo Ferlito (Senior Fellow from IDEAS), and Tricia Yeoh (COO of IDEAS).

 
Oil & Gas Asia 2017

As part of Oil & Gas Asia 2017, South East Asia's biggest petroleum industry exhibition held last week here in KL, a power-breakfast talk event was co-hosted by the BMCC and the Energy Industries Council (EIC) for 8 UK companies looking to venture into the Malaysian market to address the current possibilities and challenges represented by stakeholders within the energy sectoral landscape. Aurelia Silva was there to represent the BMCC and spoke of the Chamber's ongoing efforts in supporting the local Oil & Gas industry, citing the establishment of the BMCC's Energy Committee and the positive reception towards its formation.

 

Malaysian International Retail & Franchise (MIRF) 2017

In showing its support towards the robust Retail sector in Malaysia, the BMCC was present at last week's Malaysian International Retail & Franchise (MIRF) exhibition in Midvalley by means of a 4-day booth. On top of spreading membership awareness, the Chamber assisted in the branding and exposure of renown brands Clark's, Toni&Guy, MODALU, HeavenlyTasty and St. John's International School. 

 

"What's Next for UK & Malaysia"
Join us for a timely keynote address this 20th July to be delivered by H.E. Vicki Treadell CMG, MVO, British High Commissioner to Malaysia “What’s Next For UK and Malaysia?” This public discourse will speak on the future prospects between our two nations in light of the UK's Hung Parliament General Elections results,  Brexit and the UK Going Global campaign.
