At St. John’s International School (SJIS), community service and charitable venture aren’t just extra-curricular activities for extra credit.

The Lasallian school (the first such International School in Malaysia) proudly promotes a holistic education for students – across academics, sports and other interests – that nurtures strong values of respect and responsibility for each other and the community beyond the classroom.

Students at SJIS have a huge range of clubs and activities to choose from that are beneficial to both the school and the general public, encouraging emotional development through ethical endeavour; instilling values of charity and philanthropy that pupils will carry with them into later life.

Fittingly, the Rotary Club of Metro Kuala Lumpur – a branch of a humanitarian organisation of international distinction, sponsors the SJIS Interact Club. Members of the Interact Club visit orphanages and nursing homes and get involved with other NGO agencies to develop their sense of empathy and sympathy for the lesser privileged. Students also arrange car washes and bake sales to raise money for other institutions, such as ‘Silent Teddies’ (a deaf & mute school).

Founded in 2010, SJIS’ scholastic tradition dates back over 100 years to St. John’s Institution Kuala Lumpur in 1904. The school ethos echoes the values of the Lasallian philosophy, the ‘3Ls’ – The Last, The Least & The Lost. This fundamental principle recognises an ongoing commitment to promoting positive change for all people and communities, regardless of gender, race, faith, physical ability, even political or sexual orientation.

To this end, charitable initiatives at SJIS continue to grow in scale and scope, from serving urban refugees at the Kechara Soup Kitchen to raising funds at the annual School Carnival. The SJIS Cross-Country Charity Run supports several organisations, including the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory and the Victory Children’s Home.

With such a well-rounded academic, athletic and extra-curricular education, SJIS students are well equipped with strong values of honesty and integrity that will stand them in bright stead for their future.
