BMCC – Kaplan Forum: Are We Doing Enough to Develop Talents Effectively

Last Thursday, the BMCC together with Kaplan Financial Ltd hosted a forum on utilising professional education effectively to develop talent and drive business growth. A survey driven by Kaplan earlier this year gave impetus for this event. The survey was created to understand trends in professional education from the employer’s perspective and to explore if employers today are training their staff effectively and efficiently. For the purpose of this survey, professional education primarily focused on finance and accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and AAT.

The BMCC was proud to have partnered with Kaplan, a fellow member, for this initiative. “We strongly believe that the core of every organisation, the people and talents, are worth investing in. Not just to be trained employees, but to be skilled and multi-talented professionals capable of truly contributing to any organisation.” said BMCC Executive Director Jennifer Lopez in her special address. It is by means of such partnerships that the Chamber continues to provide value added services for our members.

Calum Shepherd, International Relationship Manager at Kaplan presented the survey findings, which analysed the employer’s views on support measures for employee training, funding and ways of improving professional education. In what was concluded as a relatively new concept globally, structured Learning & Development (L&D) will require the combined efforts of both companies and education provides to design programmes catered to the requirements of each company to ensure employees are given the best chance for effective and efficient training. ( Should you want a copy of the Survey Report, kindly email Zaiti Waddell at zaiti.waddell@kaplan.co.uk )

An MOU exchange was also observed between Kaplan and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), with an exclusive offer for MIA members to enjoy 10% off any Live Online course for ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW or AAT when booking online using discount code KAPMIA10 (Terms & Conditions apply).

The half-day’s proceedings with over 80 in attendance was wrapped up by the main forum in a coming together of business leaders and minds. Calum Shepherd returned to moderate the panel session with Madeleine Roach (Head of Global Business Services APAC, AstraZeneca Asia-Pacific), Ainol Yaacob (Head of Country, BP Malaysia), Leong Mun Foong (Head, Competency Development & Framework, MIA) and Ang Weina (Global Employer Services, National Practice Leader, Deloitte Malaysia) discussing the role of the employer in developing talent, its importance, challenges and the benefits of investing in people.
