Launch of BMCC Johor

On the 28th September 2017, the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Henley Business School (HBS), University of Reading Malaysia to formally establish a satellite BMCC representation in Johor Bharu, Malaysia’s southernmost state.

This digital incubator, officially known as “BMCC Johor” is the Chamber’s first outstation office initiative and will be managed by students from the HBS Business Management Programme under the supervision of the KL BMCC Executive Office.

The primary objective of the BMCC Johor is to extend BMCC’s presence outside Kuala Lumpur, doing so by means of driving membership and increasing the proposition of services for our members in Johor Bahru (such as business and networking events).

It’s secondary objective is to provide an opportunity for HBS business students to gain technical and practical knowledge by working in direct collaboration with well-established and recognised British business institutions in Malaysia such as BMCC. The management of the incubator by HBS will also leverage University of Reading Malaysia’s visibility through BMCC’s various events and engagement.

At its inauguration held at the UoRM campus, David Ng (Deputy Chairman of BMCC) officiated the launch of the incubator by signing the Memorandum of Understanding with Professor Tony Downes (Provost & Chief Executive Officer of UoRM). Over 100 HBS students were in attendance to witness the launch and to hear learn about their roles and expectations along with the Chamber’s history and function through a presentation by Aubai Eliwy, the BMCC’s newly appointed Head of Business Development who was on site to represent.

The BMCC Johor team will be made up of 9 members: 8 students from HBS and 1 supervisor from BMCC.
