KUALA LUMPUR, 26 October 2018 - The British Education and Schools Show in Asia (BESSA) recently launched its inaugural Malaysian show at The Gardens Hotel, Kuala Lumpur after gaining much success in Singapore for three consecutive years. BESSA was officially opened by the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Her Excellency Vicki Treadell.
BESSA was well received by the Malaysian public, with parents and their children of various age groups attending the event. The event showcased multiple booths with representatives of highly-regarded boarding schools ready to answer some of the more complicated queries parents are looking to find out – ranging from admission procedures to choices in the A level or IB curriculum, issues concerning special needs support, as well as recent updates in the UK education landscape.
Attendees of BESSA had the chance to visit each exhibiting school’s booth to learn more about what the school offers and to find the best suitable school for their child. BESSA also held a special session of keynote speakers, whereby attendees had the rare opportunity to hear advice from highly respected experts on How the Best UK Schools Prepare You for Universities and After by Harry Hammond, Senior Master at Radley College and Martin Cropper, Director of Admissions at Shrewsbury School, Supporting Special Needs in Boarding Schools by Sheridan Steen, Founder of Dyslexia School Search and Tips for Applying to Top UK Universities by Tamara Lim, Director of Prepworks.
The inaugural show had the pleasure and honour of being officiated by the British High Commissioner of Malaysia, Her Excellency Vicki Treadell, wherein she expressed her support for British Education through her opening speech.
“I am delighted that the British Education and Schools Show in Asia (BESSA) makes its debut in Malaysia for the first time – a reflection of an increasing demand for a world-class British education. The partnership between BESSA and the British High Commission of Malaysia is part of the Education is GREAT campaign, an ongoing UK campaign that seeks to promote not just a British education but the long term benefits that it delivers. The UK education system is among the best in the world and is recognised internationally for its excellence. Choosing a British education for your child, whether through the options here in Malaysia or in the UK, also exposes them to the unrivalled cultural diversity of UK and international perspectives, a chance to experience a multicultural environment and to develop the skills that are necessary to make the most of today’s global workforce and community. Indeed with English as the medium of education, a language competence too that is a passport to the world.” – H.E. Vicki Treadell
BESSA is the only curated forum for families to discover British boarding education and to meet representatives from some of the most prestigious schools in the UK. The platform provides a holistic overview for both parents and children to make informed choices and navigate the British education system and processes.
BESSA also helped guide families in finding professional guardianship agencies to assist overseas students in finding suitable host families. The UK has well-established guardianship laws to ensure the safety and welfare of overseas students who have been welcomed in the country for many decades are well taken care of. Education consultants specialising in placing pupils with a range of learning difficulties, whether mild or severe, including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, ADD, Autism and high functioning Asperger’s syndrome, were also present to assist families with such needs.
